「PopMart:Live from Mexico City/U2」を観た

　4月に行ったカンボジア出張のとき手に入れたU2のLive DVD「PopMart:Live from Mexico City」(2007/DVD)について。
　「Achtung Baby」、「Zooropa」と続いた"電脳三部作"で1997年にReleaseされたAlbum「Pop」」とともに行われた大規模なTour"PopMart Tour"から、1997年12月3日にMexico CityのForo Sol Autodromoで撮影されたものがこれ。昔1998年、VHSで買って持っていたけど、今回DVDでも観ることができた。
　ともかく、高さ17m×幅51mの巨大スクリーン、ミラーボール式のレモンのオブジェ、マックみたいなロゴなど約180億円の費用をかけ、Stadium公演のみのTourとなった"PopMart Tour"。圧倒される物凄いScale感の中、当時最新のTechnologyとU2のPerformanceが融合した映像作品に仕上がってる。で、「Mofo」、「I Will Follow」、「Even Better Than The Real Thing」、「Until The End Of The World」、「New Year's Day」、「Pride (In The Name Of Love)」、「I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For」、「Desire」といった名曲が矢継ぎ早に演奏される中、個人的に良かったのは「Staring At The Sun」と「Sunday Bloody Sunday」の2曲。これ、Acoustic Partとして演奏されてて、Edgeが切々と歌う「Sunday Bloody Sunday」は鳥肌が立った。これ以外にも、「With Or Without You」、「Hold Me,Thrill Me,Kiss Me,Kill Me」(完全にBatmanなVersion)、「Mysterious Ways」、そして染みる「One」。
　というわけで、最近WOWOWで観て、DVDとしもReleaseされた"U2360°At The Rose Bowl"は、買うしかないな...。
